Many dental and other health care practices are experiencing patient requests to bring emotional support and service animals with them in to the office for appointments. Dental offices must be able to recognize when they must allow this, when they are able to refuse these requests, and how to best go about doing so.

- The difference between a service animal and an emotional support animal.
- The necessity of having a written policy in place regarding emotional support animals.
- Some best practices for communicating with patients regarding these issues.

About the speaker … Dan Schulte, JD, is well-known for his knowledge and experience in the area of association law and is primarily responsible for the firm’s representation of the Michigan State Medical Society the Michigan Dental Association, and the Michigan Osteopathic Association. His work related to association law includes the drafting and review of new legislation and the preparation of Amicus Curiae Briefs for filing in Michigan’s Supreme Court and Court of Appeals on a variety of topics affecting health care professionals practicing in Michigan.
